We have visited our old haunt of La Cassotte today and I'm pleased to inform all our members that with immediate effect, we return there for our monthly meetings.
Therefore, the next meeting is Thursday 6th June at 18h30 and will take place at La Cassotte Sadly at this time of posting, we've lost two goods friends of the Charente MG Owners.
Bill Tee sadly passed away, following a long battle with illness, which was part of the reason for Bill and Jayne's return to UK shores, to Bill's county of Somerset. They were both early members of the "Group of MG Enthusiasts" which was the forerunner of the "Charente MG Owners" and their well turned out B Roadster, always featured in our Runs. Our thoughts go out to Jayne and we wish her well. Following our relocation to "Aux Plaisirs Gourmands", earlier this year, we were equally saddened by the loss of it's owner, Myriam Lochon, following a tragic car accident. Myriam was always welcoming and catered for our members discerning tastes, with a variety of dishes and special "tweaks", for those of us that asked for something different. Well, as we've all now donned our shorts and flip-flops for the Summer season........Yeah right.
Back in the real world, the only thing that's changed is that we're now on our Summer start times for our Monthly meetings, which is 18h30. The meeting tonight will give us an idea of how many we have for our membership list for this year, so get your hands in your pockets and pay your subs, or at least let Terri know your intention. Oh and by the way, there's only 5 mths and 16 days 'till the Remparts Rallye. Well, the first CMGO Workshop took place this morning from 09h30 - 12h30. The members present were bombarded with a wealth of knowledge from Adrian, including info on gearboxes and overdrives and how could I forget the cakes from Julie (and tomorrow's birthday boy Tony). I'm sure I can speak on behalf of today's assembled throng, when I say they were most welcome.
We also had a visit from Paul Richfield, who has a business Repairing & Maintaining Vintage & Classic Cars. Paul's details will be available on the next "Garage & Services" List. We look forward top the next CMGO Workshop, with the hope of better weather. So as we arrive towards the end of Jan, winter comes back at us with a vengence. I thought that after the sun of the past few days that out would come the shorts and flip-flops, but no. There was a covering of snow this morning, which is now thawing thankfully.
We've now got our new home for the CMGO agreed on, following our AGM, along with John, Terri and myself kindly returned by your votes. Our CMGO Workshop is returning, thanks to Adrian, with the first workshop dedicated to prepping our cars for the forthcoming season. Even if you don't feel the need to work on your car, it's a good oportunity to chat and have a coffee. We've had a couple of suggestions in for CMGO Runs, which I'll raise at out next meeting. While on the subjest of the March Meeting, please don't forget that Terri (The Pocket Pirate), will be fleecing you for your CMGO Subs, which remain at the same level as last year. Let's hope that the threat of having to put "hands into pockets" will not keep you all away. See you soon. Following on from the suggestions, a venue for our Feb meeting has been agreed on.
Details are all on the "Contact Us" page. It's now up to you, the members, to agree if you want this to become a permanant home for us. Well a belated Happy New year to all, as ours was delayed by the dreaded flu. Mine obviously lasted longer than Terri's, due to it being "man-flu" and not just a brief encounter with a runny nose.
Following the retirement of Regis and the closure of La Cassotte, the search continues for a new home for the CMGO and to date, we've rec'd suggestions from Steve, Ken, Tony, John and Deek (sorry Derek). Don't forget that in the ideal world we'd like Car Parking / Our own meeting room / Resto facilities / Charente based, (as after all we are the Charente MG Owners) / and to be welcome in the Summer as well as the Winter when it's quiet. Bienvenue and welcome to our website and blog.
This site will give you a little insight into our world and if it gets just one of you to go out and buy an MG, we've acomplished something. We wish you all a great Christmas and a very happy New Year for 2013. |
