Run & Roman Ruins - 8th May
We all met up at Les Tilleuls café, St. Claud for coffee. We welcomed Matt (secretary of the Preston MG club in the UK) who was visiting France and staying with some friends locally. After refreshments, Mikey led the convoy of 9 MGs away through the countryside (1 MGA, 1 MGB, 2 MGFs, 2 MGF Trophys, 2 MGTFs & 1 MG EHS) to Cassinomagus. Here we were able to tour the roman bathhouse at our leisure. The public baths are the surviving remains of a small Gallo Roman town, which now lies buried underneath the nearby village of Chassenon. The extensive 10,000m2 complex, with two large baths and numerous ancillary rooms, seemed a bit over the top for a small town, but we were informed that it also served travellers on the nearby important roman road linking Saintes, Limoges and Lyon. The Romans had used a strange burnt stone material for the construction - Chassenon breccia, which was produced 200 million years ago by the impact of a meteorite in the area.
The complex supported and emphasised hygiene, beauty care and physical exercise, and that the baths also served as a place of meeting and exchange.
Thanks to Mikey for arranging this event and to all those that joined us.

President's run - 17th April
5 MGs started off on a mini run from Ruffec to meet the rest of the attendees at Les Tilleuls café, St. Claud for coffee. After refreshments eight MGs (1 MGA, 2 MGFs, 2 MGF Trophys, 2 MGTFs & I MG EHS) set off through the countryside to Aigre, via Cellefrouin, Saint-Front, Couture, Aunac-sur-Charente, Bayers, Fontenille & Ligné. At Aigre we had lunch at restaurant Le Square. An interesting lunch, the Plat du Jour comprised of a choice of 2-curries or Steak-Hauche - all of which came with pasta.
After lunch we drove over to Domaine Vilneau in Verdille, a local vineyard for a tour and a tasting session.
A big Thank You to all those that supported the first run of the year.
